Clinical supervision

I have a Diploma in Supervision from the Leeds Centre for Psychological Development and work on a one to one basis in a collaborative, supportive and challenging manner to develop practice and personal development of both trainee and qualified counsellors. I chose counselling as a career after receiving counselling myself following an unexpected health issue in my life. This has helped me to understand the process from a client’s point of view as well as wanting to be able to provide that support for others.

I have worked in multiple settings in an integrative way with adults, children and young people. I have experience working with children in a bereavement setting and in schools (both primary and secondary). I have also worked with adults (including EAP) in both long term and short-term therapy, face to face, by phone and online. I believe that my client experience that I have accumulated over the years has help me develop my skills as a clinical supervisor. As a supervisor I believe that a supportive and respectful environment is key I also combine that with reflection, constructive challenging (where appropriate) and evaluation of practice and what clinical professional development could be needed.

I believe that clinical supervision is a valuable part of being a clinical practitioner who works with clients. Counselling is a rewarding and challenging role and sufficient support is necessary. This is why I feel a strong therapeutic relationship built on respect and trust is my foundation for the supervision work I do to be able to take place. I encourage my supervises to be as honest and as open as they can be so that they can attain professional and personal growth, and the development of professional competence just as I aim to do in my own clinical supervision which is part of my ethical practice.
